Lawrence County Salute To Agriculture Week

The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, UT/TSU Extension and the Salute to Agriculture Planning Committee is pleased to announce the dates and activities for the 2013 “Lawrence County Salute To Agriculture Week”.

On Monday June 3rd , the Family and Consumer Science Clubs will be hosting a Cultural Arts Fair at the New Community Meeting Room at the Lawrence County Extension Office from 2-4pm.

On Tuesday, June 4th there will be a breakfast honoring all Lawrence County Farmers beginning at 7:30am. at David Crockett Elementary School. All Lawrence County Farmers are invited to the breakfast.

University of Tennessee Chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture, Dr. Larry Arrington will be the featured speaker along with a presentation on the “History of Tractors in Lawrence County” from International Crossroads of Dixie Antique Tractor & Engine Club member Curtis Peters.

 Any farmer planning to attend the breakfast should RSVP to the Chamber Office at 762-4911. One of the highlights of the breakfast will be the announcement of the 2013 Century Farm.

Farm City Day will take place on Wednesday, June 5th from 9am. til noon at the Livestock Pavilion at Rotary Park. This program is designed to provide the youth of Lawrence County an opportunity to learn about agriculture through many hands-on activities.

On Thursday June 6th the Farm Tours will be taking place. Going along with our theme of Tractors, we will be touring Threet Farms, Dixie Deer & Dyno Engine Shop and H & R Agri-Power. The tour will depart at 8am. from the parking lot at H & R Agri-Power and return around noon. 

On Friday evening, June 7th the Lawrence County Lions Club will be hosting a Horse Show at Rotary Park beginning at 6:30pm. The week will conclude on Saturday, June 8th with the TWRA Free Fishing Day.
